Flowering Shrubs
It’s time to add colorful flowering shrubs to the spring landscape. Everyone’s favorites – rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, & lilacs – are arriving daily at Heritage. And just in time for planting season!
Tips for successful growing…
• Rhododendrons, azaleas, & camellias prefer acid, organically-enriched, well-drained yet moist soil & a sun/part sun location. Plant where they are protected from summer’s intense afternoon sun & winter’s unforgiving winds. Pruning, if needed, should be done soon after flowering. Prune too late in the season & you will sacrifice bloom for the following year.
• Lilacs grow best in full sun and well-drained soil. Think fragrance, think lilac. Plant where you can enjoy their fragrant blooms. Just like with rhododendrons & azaleas, any needed pruning should be done immediately after flowering.
